Mumbai, August 7: In a bizarre incident of fraud in Mumbai, a man posing as Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant's personal assistant allegedly duped popular eatery Bademiya of INR 12.27 lakh. Surprisingly, the imposter duped the owner of the South Mumbai eatery by ordering hundreds of plates of food including biryani and gulab jamun. The alleged incident came to light wen the Jamal Mohammad Yasin Shaikh (54) approached the police and lodged a complaint.
In his complaint, the Bademiya's owner said that a man named Suraj called him and ordered food several times on Sawant's behalf since July. One of the order placed by Suraj was of 200 plates of biryani and gulab jamun, reports Hindustan Times. When Shaikh asked Suraj about the bill, the alleged fraudster said that Sawant would settle the same. Fraudster Used to Order Food on Arvind Sawant's Name Since July
Shaikh told cops that he sent the parcel as he had supplied food to Sawant in the past, for which he was paid the money later. The complainant told cops that he sent food parcels to Suraj several times since July. Shaikh also alleged that Suraj once called him and ordered 200 plates of food stating that the food parcels were required as party leader Milind Narvekar won the MLC seat.

The food parcel sent to Byculla included vegetarian and non-vegetarian biryani, and gulab jamuns. Post this, Suraj called Shaikh and orderd food for 40 people. During such calls, Shaikh asked Suraj if he could help secure admission for his daughter in a law college at Churchgate-based law college. Later, the alleged imposter took a total of INR 9.27 lakh on pretext of college fee, money to pay a trustee among other reasons. Cops said that Shaikh paid the money in cash and through UPI. While a case has been registered against the alleged fraudster, MP Arvind Sawant clarified that he did not have any personal assistant called Suraj.
