1984 Anti-Sikh Riots: Shiromani Akali Dal Carries Out Protests March in Delhi Demanding Justice for the Family of Victims

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday took out to the streets of Delhi in protest to seek justice for the family of victims in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in which many Sikhs were killed across the country.

New Delhi, November 3: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday took to streets of Delhi in protest to seek justice for the family of victims in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in which many Sikhs were killed across the country. The march is led by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and the union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal. The protest started from Gurudwara Pratapganj and ended outside the parliament street police station.

During the march, a scuffle broke out between the SAD protestors and security officials and they were seen burning effigies. "Our community has been seeking justice since 34 yrs. Thousands of Sikhs were massacred, several women were raped&lost their houses. Such atrocity is a blot in the history of India. No one received justice. What are the 1984 Sikh riots?

1984 anti-Sikh riots are also known as the 1984 Sikh Massacre. It was a series of attacks on Sikhs in response to the assassination of Indira Gandhi by her two Sikh bodyguards. According to the government report, 2,800 people were killed across India but the independent sources estimated the death counts at about 8,000.
