New Delhi to Tackle Dust Storm by Planting 31 Lakh Trees! Air Quality Set to Improve
In May, the national capital experienced severe dust storm due which several flights were diverted to Amritsar, nearly 450-km from Delhi.
New Delhi, July 9: To protect the national capital, Delhi from westward dust storm coming from Rajasthan, Haryana regions the Union government along with the AAP-led Delhi government has decided to plant 31 lakh trees on the borders. The idea behind the move is to shield the city from the dust storms which has choked the city in past. The plantation of 31 lakh saplings has already begun. According to PTI reports, the trees will be planted on all three sides of Delhi to avoid these western dust storms.
Besides this, they believe that the trees will act as a natural barrier to protect the Delhi border along with Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. It will also encompass the Aravali area as well as the Yamuna forests.
The trees which will be planted are of various species like Pilkhan, Goolar, Mango, Mahua, Peepal, Neem, Banyan, Berry, Amla, Jamun, etc. As these trees are dense and tall, it can help to prevent the dust particles from rising in the sky. The forest department of Delhi Government has decided to finish the plantation within two-years time. The scheme was launched on July 7 this year.
