Naseeruddin Shah kicked a hornet's nest in a video interview with Karwan-e-Mohabbat India a few days back where he said that his children don't feel safe in India as they don't have a religion. He was speaking in reference to the increasing mob violence in India. The actor faced a severe backlash from rightwing supporters, including threats, which ironically kind of proved Shah's point. Now Amnesty India, a human rights organisation, has released a new video asking the Indian government to stop the crackdown on freedom and on activists who are fighting for human rights. The video featured Naseeruddin Shah who endorses their views and asks the government to listen to their concerns. Naseeruddin Shah Responds to Controversy Over His Comments, Asks 'How Is Expressing Concern on My Country A Crime?'

The video was posted on the Twitter timeline of the organisation. It was posted with the caption, "In 2018, India witnessed a massive crackdown on freedom of expression and human rights defenders. Let's stand up for our constitutional values this new year and tell the Indian government that its crackdown must end now."

In the video, Shah mentions that the atrocities against the minorities are on the rise and India is not the country that properly endorses human rights for everyone. He urges people to stand up for their values and the government to treat them in a precious manner. He has got support from the Indian National Congress for the video. Anupam Kher Opposes Naseeruddin Shah's Statement Says, How Much More Freedom Do You Need?

Amnesty India has been one of the few organisations that had been a target of the raids carried out by The Enforcement Directorate last year on October 25. The raids were carried out in their headquarters, as well as in its director Aakar Patel's residence. Amnesty later released a statement where they accused the government of treating them like criminals as they were fighting for human rights. Now with this new video, both Amnesty and Naseeruddin Shah has given fodder for the news channels to debate more about how valid their claims are.
