Nagpur, June 15: Shoma Sen, an Assistant Professor of Nagpur University has reportedly been suspended after her alleged connection with the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist). She was earlier arrested by Pune police along with other four others for violence in the Elgar Parishad on December 31, 2017, a day ahead of Bhima-Koregaon caste riots in Pune.

The Pune police in its probe also revealed that the five arrested in Mumbai, Delhi and Nagpur had “direct or indirect links” with the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist). All arrested were produced before the Sessions court and have been remanded to police custody till June 14 reportedly.

The Pune police lawyers also told the court about the letter which the police found from one of the accused's home. The letter hints at a plan of another Rajiv Gandhi-type assassination of PM Narendra Modi. However, on Saturday, author and Maoist ideologue Varavara Rao Rao rubbished the claim and said that all the letters were fake and there was an attempt to link Maoists to the Bhima-Koregaon violence.

After the PM assassination plot news started doing rounds, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also alleged that he also received two emails from Maoists with a death threat. Following this, his security was beefed up.
