Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Rape Cases: CBI Files FIR Against Manju Verma, Husband Under Arms Act; Probes Minister Damodar Rawat

As many as 34 minor girls were raped in the shelter home, and under pressure from the opposition, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recommended a CBI probe.

Bihar, August 20: CBI has filed an FIR against Bihar Minister Manju Verma and her husband Chandrasekhar Verma under Arms Act. According to an ANI report, when CBI had conducted a raid at 12 locations, including her Patna residence on August 17, 50 cartridges were recovered. Thakur is lodged in Muzaffarpur jail after his arrest on June 2. Manju Verma had earlier resigned from the post of Minister on August 8 following allegations that the main accused in the Muzaffarpur Shelter Home rape cases, had links with her husband. The shocking details of the shelter home sexual abuse against the women inmates came forward when TISS, Mumbai conducted a survey. The report mentioned of sexual abuse complaint from many inmates and an FIR was then registered by the Bihar police on the basis of TISS report.

According to media reports, some of the victims at the shelter home used to be taken to the roof of the three-storey building and stripped naked. The girls have also said that they used to be beaten (spanked) if they refused sexual advances and did not give in to the demands of the offenders.
