26 March, Mumbai: Mumbaikars experienced a highly uncomfortable weather on Sunday as the city got engulfed in heat wave and temperature soared to 41°C. According to reports, it was the hottest day since 2011, when mercury had reached 41.3°C on March 17. It was also the second highest maximum temperature recorded in the month of March in a decade.
The sweltering heat made it really difficult for the people in the city to bear the sudden increase in temperature. The day maximum was 8 degrees above the normal average of 33.2°C. Reportedly, there is no relief for people in Mumbai as forecasts predict that temperature is likely to increase during the next 24 hours as well and heat wave will persist.
According to a Times of India report, Explaining the steep rise in the maximum temperatures Nitha T, scientist from IMD Mumbai said, "The rise in temperatures is due to the strong easterly winds and delayed sea breeze. Over the last few days, the winds have been westerly which are from the sea to the land and hence much cooler. This changed wind pattern may prevail for the next two days."
So Mumbaikars brace yourself for hot days ahead and prepare accordingly. It is very important to keep yourself well hydrated when you step outside in the sun, as the fear of heat stroke remain. Cover yourself properly and carry an umbrella to protect yourself from the wrath of sun.
