Mumbaikars were surprised on Thursday to experience rainfall all of a sudden in the middle of sweltering March heat. According to reports, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the city is likely to witness light showers in the next three days.
Light rain in entire Maharashtra, South Konkan and south Madhya Maharashtra including the Marathawada and Vidharba regions is expected for the next three days. The Department has predicted rain/thundershower at most places with isolated heavy falls over Kerala, coastal Karnataka and Lakshadweep Islands during next 24 hours.
The reason behind the sudden change in weather is because of a depression in the Arabian Sea. Mumbai Mirror report quotes, KS Hosalikar, Deputy Director General, Western Region, India Meteorological Department, says, “The intensity is now reduced and it is moving north-westerly, it is now a low pressure area and because of that there is a lot of southwesterly winds that have brought a lot of moisture over entire Maharashtra."
According to an ANI report, IMD on Wednesday stated that the sea condition will be rough to very rough over the Comorin-Maldives area and adjoining sea areas during the next 36 hours and over Lakshadweep and the adjoining southeast Arabian Sea off Kerala coast for the next few days. In this regard, a warning had been issued to fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea along and off south Tamil Nadu, Comorin-Maldives area, the adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Mannar area during the next 24 hours. Furthermore, fishermen are advised not to venture into sea along and off Kerala coast, Lakshadweep area and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea on account of the rough sea.
