Mumbai, July 27: Two college students, who were on their way to the Haji Ali Dargah, died on Wednesday night after falling off a CST-bound local train. The mishap took place between Byculla and Sandhurst Road stations when one of them leaned outside to spit. While one of them died on the spot, the other succumbed to severe injuries in hospital.

Aman Sayyad (19) and Sarfaraz Shaikh (17) boarded a CST-bound local train from Mumbra in Thane district. After the train left Byculla, one of them came to the door to spit, but lost his balance as he leaned out. His friend, who was standing nearby rushed to his rescue, but he too ended up falling, reported Times of India.

“We were informed about the mishap by the station master around 9.45pm. Both the boys were lying on the fast track. Sayyed had died on the spot due to severe injuries," a police official was quoted as saying. The duo was taken to the St George’s Hospital. Doctors tried to save Shaikh who was unconscious.

"Doctors started treating Shaikh after he was wheeled into the ICCU. But his injuries were grievous and he couldn’t survive," the official added. The bodies were handed over to their family after an autopsy.
