Mumbai Traffic Update: Kemp's Corner Flyover Safe For Commutation, Vehicles Can Ply
"I request everyone not to panic as the alignment of the joint has a fault of levelling since its construction in 1965," the Thackeray scion said.
Mumbai, May 6: Commuters in South Mumbai were left in a state of panic after a viral image on social media showed misalignment at one of the joints of the Kemp's Corner flyover.
Rumours on the internet said the police has recommended motorists to avoid the path and use alternative routes. However, Shiv Sena leader Aditya Thackeray issued a clarification amid the confusion, saying the crack in the bridge appears since its construction in 1965.
Thackeray, however, said Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta has assured him of an assessment to be undertaken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials to ascertain if there is any danger to the commuters.
The Kemp's Corner bridge is critical for those travelling in the South Mumbai region. The flyover witnesses heavy traffic movement throughout the day, barring the weekends.
The BMC, meanwhile, is also undertaking steps to minimise the impact of rainfall on major roads connecting various parts of the city. With over 1,100 deaths of motorists recorded in monsoon last year, the corporation aims to improve the road quality, which could minimise the potholes.
