Mumbai Rains: BMC Warns Citizens Not To Believe Rumours On Cyclone Warning, Worli Sealink Open For Traffic
The Met has predicted heavy to very rainfall in Mumbai and adjoining regions for next a few days. As a precautionary measure, the authority has also asked citizens to plan their travel accordingly.
Mumbai, July 10: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) has appealed to citizens not to believe any rumours amid heavy rains in Mumbai. The recent rumour which is doing the rounds on social media is about the Worli Sea-link has been closed down, after a cyclone warning for Mumbai issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). However, BMC's Public Relation Officer in an official statement sent on Tuesday afternoon said that people must not believe such rumours and that the sea link was open for traffic.
Last year, during the monsoon, similar messages were doing the rounds on social media platforms including WhatsApp. Following the rumours, civic commissioner Ajoy Mehta had met the Police Commissioner to take action against miscreants spreading fake news. The BMC had also issued a press statement stating that people who were found spreading such panic messages would be jailed, however, no such action was reportedly taken.

BMC alert.. If the rain doesnt stop or slow down, the electricity will be cut off.. Please charge up yur cellphones and inform it to others too..

Mumbaikars were left in the lurch as rains continued in the city for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday. Several parts of Mumbai were reported to be waterlogged and traffic movement was badly affected. Mumbai's lifeline-- local trains-- were running with some delay. Train services between Vasai and Bhayander were suspended due to massive waterlogging on rail tracks.
