Mumbai Rains: 24 Hours After Lloyds Estate Wall Collapse, Another Landslide at Wadala's Dosti Realty Plot
The Antop Hill police station registered a case against Dosti Realty Limited under sections 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 287 (Negligent conduct concerning machinery).
Mumbai, June 26: Another landslide occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the plot of Dosti Acres in Wadala. The incident was barely 24 hours after incessant rainfall caused a landslide at the same plot of Dosti, which also caused the wall of neighbouring Lloyds Estate collapsing down.
Immediately after the incident was reported on Monday, activist slammed the civic body for working hand in glove with builders. Abha Singh, the Bombay High Court (HC) senior advocate also alleged that the state government, in a bid to benefit Dosti group, diluted some provision in the Development Control Regulations (DCR) 1999.
Due to amendment, the restricted limit on basement excavation got uplifted. Singh further accused that the rule was amended for the builder lobby to allow them to avoid the erstwhile regulatory hurdles.
The lawyer also pointed out that due to the haphazard excavation work, it caused loosening of the soil endangering the lives of residents living in adjoining building.
Here is the video of the second landslide in Wadala's Antop Hill:
After the landslide mishap, the civic body, as a precautionary measure also asked the neighbouring 32-storey Lloyds Estate to evacuate the building. Reportedly, the same building compound wall collapsed due to the ongoing Dosti acres excavation work on the adjoining plot. While no deaths were reported in the wall collapse incident, a 37-year-old woman was left injured.
As per reports, the Antop Hill police station registered a case against Dosti Realty Limited under sections 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 287 (Negligent conduct concerning machinery). Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam also lambasted the Shiv Sena-ruled BMC, charging them of corruption. Though mishaps of landslides continue to occur at Dosti Realty's due to the excavation work, BMC has not taken any action against the builders, neither it asked them to stop the work. Therefore Nirupam has stated that he will hold a protest against the BMC tomorrow at 12 pm.
Nirupam has also demanded Civic Commissioner Ajoy Mehta's resignation over his failure to break the nexus between the builders and civic bureaucrats.
