Mumbai, March 3: When a policeman commits a gruesome crime, like chopping a woman's body into pieces, the image of security in the minds citizens take a beating. When the same officer is accused of murdering and butchering a colleague to throw away her remains in a creek, it should raise difficult and disturbing questions in the police force also. Does stress and anti-social behavior go unnoticed in the police force? Are difficult conditions and long hours getting to the health of personnel and worse still, are people around them willing to see beneath and beyond the uniform to address serious issues? The case of Ashwini Bidre- Gore, the Mumbai policewoman who went missing in the year 2016, following which the Mumbai police had made a missing complaint and arrested four in the case, was murdered and her body parts chopped off and disposed in Vasai creek by none other than her colleague and senior inspector Abhay Kurundkar, according to one of the suspects arrested in the case.
According to the report in the Times of India, the suspect Mahesh Falniker, who is a friend of senior inspector Abhay Kurundkar, inspector Abhay first cut the body of Ashwini Bidre- Gore in different parts, then stored the limbs and head of the body in the refrigerator of his Bhayander flat and later disposed it in Vasai creek. The suspect also informed police about two more names who helped inspector Abhay in this heinous crime. The names are that of the inspector's driver, and Raju Patil. Raju Patil is a nephew of senior BJP leader and former cabinet minister Eknath Khadse. Police said that on Sunday, the body of Ashwini will be searched in the creek as the suspect has accepted that the torso of missing policewoman Ashwini was thrown in the creek by inspector Abhay as he could not store it in the refrigerator.
The whole incident reads like an episode straight from a real-life crime based show. The victim goes missing and has reportedly sent messages to her sister's husband saying that she is going to the north for meditation. She doesn't report to work so police reaches her home to find if everything is fine. There they come to know that she has gone missing for quite sometime now. Then the brother of Bidre, and her estranged husband register a missing case in Kamboli police department. And now it comes to light that she met this horrific fate at the hands of not only a colleague but also someone he was in a relationship with, only adds to the monstrocity of this case.
