Along with the inauguration of the aforementioned lines, a number of other schemes and segments were also announced.
Mumbai, Mar 30: Railway Minister Piyush Goyal flagged off the newly-extended Harbour Line section between Andheri and Goregaon here on Thursday. In a bid to provide seamless connectivity and better amenities to locals, the extended portion was unveiled, along with 49 other suburban services.
The new line offers direct connectivity between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST) and Goregaon and is aimed at benefiting nearly 13,000 travelers. It also aims at decongesting lines during peak hours.
"The pace at which Mumbai and Maharashtra are growing is a matter of pride for locals. While the construction of any infrastructure can cause temporary hardship, it is good in the long run. The construction of the new lines will largely benefit the generations to come," Goyal said while addressing the inaugural ceremony.
Along with the inauguration of the aforementioned lines, a number of other schemes and segments were also announced.
For the convenience of passengers, escalators have been installed at CST, Dockyard Road, Thane, and Lonavala. Furthermore, lifts have been installed at Borivali, Dadar (WR-2), Dockyard Road, Wadala Road, Chembur, and Lonavala stations.
Additionally, a new elevated booking office at Andheri, a foot overbridge at Chunabhatti and newly-extended foot over bridge at Virar station has been inaugurated.
The Railway Minister also announced the installation of solar panels at Ram Mandir and Santacruz stations and LED lights at all stations of Western and Central Railways.
