Mumbai, February 19: A 20-year-old girl from Vashi was killed by a Facebook friend for refusing to have sex. The girl had only recently befriended the accused. The accused, Haridas Nirgude, a 25-year-old man from Nalasopara had called the girl to his house on Sunday and tried to force himself on the girl. When the girl rejected his advances, Nirgude strangulated the girl with a shoe lace. After that, he dragged the girl's body and left it at the stair case. It was only when the neighbors discovered her body, that they called police and medical facility. The hospital declared the girl dead on arrival and police followed lead to nab Haridas Nirgude. The girl's mobile phone and purse was found in Nirgude's flat that gave away the killer.

The police has said that  bloodstains were found on Nirgude's bed and that the body has been sent for autopsy to determine if she was sexually assaulted before getting killed by Nirgude. Police also added that Haridas Nirgude has confessed to killing the girl for refusing to have sex with him. The accused lives with his sister but he was alone in the house when he had called the girl. Police said that further investigations are on to find more details about the case.

In recent times, crime by people known to the victim through social media has been on the rise. Experts believe that one must be careful about who they befriend and interact with on such platforms.
