Mumbai Battles Heavy Rains As Heat Wave Continues to Grip Delhi, Haryana & Punjab
Due to the heatwave condition, school authorities in Haryana have extended their summer vacation and in Punjab, the school timings have been changed.
Mumbai, July 1: While Mumbai continues to get lashed with torrential rains, people in Punjab, Harayana and Delhi are desperately trying to beat the heat wave in the city by covering their faces, and trying to stay hydrated. Due to the heatwave, the Haryana government on Sunday announced that they have decided to extend the summer vacation for government and private schools by a week. In Punjab on the other hand, the authorities have changed the school timings. The schools have reopened today and according to the new timings of all government primary, middle, high and senior secondary, aided and affiliated schools in the state will be from 7.30am- 1.30 pm. Formation of low-pressure in the Bay of Bengal will bring good spell of rains to Central India, including Odisha and parts of Rajasthan. However, parts of north India like Delhi, Punjab and Haryana may not benefit due to this low-pressure formation. Monsoon is yet to arrive in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.
According to a PTI report, Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal on Sunday. In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a maximum temperature of 41.6 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal, followed by Patiala at 41 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal, and Ludhiana at 39.7 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal, as per the information provided by the Indian Meteorological department.
Mumbai witnessed severe rainfall over the weekend and it is still raining. As a result of this, water-logging has been reported in several places. Local train lines have been disrupted, causing severe inconvenience to all the commuters.
