Mumbai Airport: Air India Ground Staff on Strike Over Non-Payment of Diwali Bonus, Several Flights Delayed

Mumbai, November 8: The contractual ground staff of Air India Air Transport Services Limited (AIATSL) at Mumbai airport are on a strike since Wednesday night. Around 400 ground staff is on strike, and several flights have been delayed because of it. According to a Times of India report, the strike is due to non-payment of Diwali bonus. An Air India spokesperson as quoted in an ANI update said, "Due to a sudden industrial situation at Mumbai airport by AIATSL employees, some flights have got delayed. We are assessing the situation and all efforts are being made to minimise delays or disruption."
The ground staff of the airline carry out job functions like checking-in passengers, loading/unloading bags, cargo, cleaning aircraft. A week back, passengers staged a protest after Air India flight was delayed by 10 hours.
