New Delhi, June 25: The monsoon session of the Parliament is scheduled to be held from July 18 till August 10, 2018. The session will comprise of 18 working days. In the monsoon session of Parliament, the government plans to pass the Constitution (123rd) Amendment Bill, 2017 that seeks to accord constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).
The Cabinet Committee of Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA), chaired by Home Minister Rajanth Singh on Monday met in the national capital to recommend the dates.
The President will now formally convene the session. Parliamentary Affairs minister Ananth Kumar told reporters that the session will have nearly 18 sittings. Kumar informed that other important Bills including the Triple Talaq bill, Transgender Bill will be among others which will be tabled in the Parliament during the monsoon session. The government expects constructive cooperation from all political parties for a productive session.
In 2017, the Parliament's monsoon session was adjourned sine die on August 11 after 19 sittings. During the 19-day schedule, the Lok Sabha saw the passage of 14 legislations, including the Banking (Amendment) Bill, and the suspension of six Congress members for “highly unbecoming” behaviour. Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha passed nine bills and witnessed debates on a wide range of issues like lynchings and the agrarian crisis facing the country.
