Monsoon Forecast: Mumbai Set to Receive Heavy Rains This Week; Skymet Weather Warns of Flash Flood Possibility After June 8

According to Skymet weather, heavy rains may affect normal life across Mumbai starting June 7. The agency has also warned of the possibility of flash flooding in some areas as Monsoon arrives in the city.

Mumbai, June 5: Monsoon is set to arrive in Mumbai by June 8 and weather agency Skymet Weather has warned of heavy rains in Mumbai in the later half of the week. According to Skymet weather, heavy rains may affect normal life across Mumbai starting June 7. The agency has also warned of the possibility of flash flooding in some areas as Monsoon arrives in the city.

Weathermen say that the intensity of rains is set to increase by June 8 with the onset of Monsoon and may lead to traffic snarls in the city. Skymet Weather has asked Mumbaikars to be prepared and make adequate arrangements to struggle with "chaotic situation".

On Monday, June 4, Mumbai received heavy rains with strong winds, leading to waterlogging and traffic jams in many areas. Local train services were also affected due to the rains that lasted about three hours.

According to reports, several Mumbai-bound flights had to be diverted due to unfavourable landing conditions. About 18 flights were diverted to airports around Mumbai including Ahmedabad.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported 39 incidents of fallen trees in the city. Power cuts were also reported in some areas.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Disaster Control Room on Monday said that maximum rainfall of 46 mm was recorded in Andheri area followed by Dahisar (43mm), Dharavi (39 mm), Wadala (35mm) and Byculla (33mm). The BMC informed that 39 cases of tree falling were also reported and traffic snarls were observed in Dharavi and Dadar TT circle.

Monsoon made an onset in Kerala on May 29, three days before its scheduled arrival. It has advanced in some parts of Tamil Nadu, and southwest, west-central, east-central, northeast of Bay of Bengal, and in most of the northeastern states, the IMD said.
