Heavy spells of showers are expected in several parts of India, therefore the authorities have asked not to move out of the house, unless necessitated.
Mumbai, June 9: Monsoon has arrived in several parts of India in last few days and the southwest monsoon will further advance to remaining parts over this weekend according to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) morning press release. The monsoon showers will touch remaining parts of Goa, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, some parts of South Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, South Chattisgarh, South Odisha, entire Telangana, most parts of Andhra Pradesh, remaining parts of West-central Bay of Bengal and North Bay of Bengal.
The weather forecast has detailed five days prediction from June 9 to June 14, and according to that on June 9 heavy to very heavy rainfall at few places over Konkan, Goa and Madhya Maharashtra will take place. Also at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Vidharbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Interior Karnataka and Kerala. The thunderstorms accompanied with squall and lightning very likely at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh. While thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds are likely to be observed at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, East Uttar, Pradesh, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
As heavy rainfall has been predicted by IMD in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation as a precautionary measure has cancelled civic officials weekend holidays. They have also roped in navy for help during an emergency situation. Also, reflective jackets have been provided to BMC workers who will be deployed at flood-prone areas of Mumbai. The Mumbai civic body during monsoon receives a lot of flak for civic negligence. Reportedly just a day before a three-years-old child drown after falling into an open manhole, which once again pointed the lack of preparedness and apathy of municipal body.
