Patna, July 29: In yet another incident of mob lynching, a young boy was beaten to death over suspicion of being a mobile phone snatcher. The lynching took place in Bihar's Muzaffarpur. While the police began a probe, family of the victim alleged foul play. The victim had faced allegations of mobile theft previously too.
Following the lynching, a crowd blocked the Bairia bus stand road in protest and demonstrated by setting a fire. The protest led to a traffic jam in the area. Victim's family said it was a deliberate incident given an angle of mobile-theft. They alleged that the boy was killed for being allegedly involved in a eve-teasing incident.
The SSP of Muzaffarpur assured appropriate action will be taken against the culprits. In a similar incident in Gujarat, two youths were thrashed on the allegations of mobile theft. One of the youths died on spot, while the other was admitted in hospital.
There have been several incidents of mob violence in different parts of the country over child-lifting and cow-smuggling rumours. The incidents come days after the central and state governments came under a sharp criticism from the Supreme Court over frequent lynching incidents.
