Kashmir, June 21: On Wednesday, suspected militants fired upon a police vehicle in Pampore area of southern Pulwama district in Jammu & Kashmir. According to a report on Scroll, all the three officers injured in the firing were taken to the nearby hospital. One of them, constable Tanveer Ahmad, died at the hospital, and one of the other officers is undergoing treatment and is in a stable condition. Reportedly, the police have registered a case against the accused and operation is on to hunt the attackers.
This is also the first attack since the imposition of Governor's rule in the state on Wednesday, a day after BJP broke their alliance with PDP in Jammu & Kashmir. BJP ended their 40-month alliance with PDP citing several reasons.
Reportedly, Centre to scale up operations against Kashmir militants and will adopt a more aggressive approach not only inside Kashmir but also along the Line of Control and the International Border as well.
The second term of governor Vohra is ending on June 27, but he is expected to continue in office, at least until the completion of the Amarnath yatra, which passes through South Kashmir districts. The annual pilgrimage ends on August 26.
