Kolkata, May 26: A migrant worker in West Bengal was thrashed in a moving train for failing to answer questions on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the national anthem.
The incident was reported from Kaliachak region of Bengal, where a migrant labourer, identified as Jamal Momin, was heckled by four men and asked to vacate his seat.
According to the co-passengers, the miscreants continued to quiz Momin about the Indian PM and Bengal CM, despite him reiterating that he is uneducated.
The accused not only heckled him for not being aware about the Indian political leaders, but also shamed him for being a Muslim. They asked the victim where he prayed namaz five times a day. When he said "yes", the miscreants replied, "Shame on you. You can pray five times a day, but cannot remember the national anthem."
The harassment continued further as the miscreants began quizzing him about Nawaz Sharif, the ousted prime minister of Pakistan. The accused also forced him to say 'Bharat Mata ki Jai', before getting down at the Bandel railway station.
A local NGO, Bangla Sanskriti Mancha, approached the Kaliachak police with the videos circulating on social media. A case has been registered against the unidentified accused, and the search operation has been launched to nab them, said inspector-in-charge Suman Chatterjee.
