Kanpur, June 8: Five deaths in just 24 hours? Yes, this has taken place at Lajpat Rai Hospital, associated with Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College (GSVM) in Kanpur because the AC plant for the ICU has not been working for several days. According to a Zee News report, the ACs were not working since Wednesday, and the lead nurse had even submitted a written complaint about it.
To provide relief to the patients inside the hospital, windows inside the rooms were opened too, however, because of the intense heat, it was of no help. The relatives used hand fans to bring relief to the patients, who were suffering not only from their ailment but due to the heat.
The hospital has, however, denied the charges and according to an ANI report, Principal GSVM has said, "2 deaths occurred due to cardiac arrest, and other two died due to chronic illness. AC plant will be repaired soon."

The rise in such incidents highlight the medical negligence at government hospitals in the country. The UP government seems to have not learnt any lesson after the death of 49 infants who died at Farrukhabad hospital, due to lack of oxygen in 2017.
