New Delhi, Jan 30: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials on Tuesday reached the premises of self-styled godman Baba Virendra Dev Dikshit's ashram in Rohini to demolish it. The area was guarded with heavy police cover in order to ward off any disturbance created by the devotees of the rape-accused godman.
The ashram's demolition order was issued by the MCD after probe revealed that it was illegally constructed.
Baba Dikshit came under scanner of the authorities nearly in October last year, when dozens of his devotees lodged complaint of sexual assault against him.
As per the accusations, the godman used to keep a section of his female devotees as captive sex slaves.
The probe against him is being conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Baba Dikshit has been evading arrest for the past two-and-a-half months. A search operation has been launched in the national capital and adjoining regions to trace him.
Among those who levelled rape charges against the Baba, include several minors. The Delhi High Court, while hearing the matter, had tasked the CBI to form a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to take up the case on high priority.
