Mumbai, June 6: Matunga police have arrested a professor of a prominent engineering college in central Mumbai following a sexual harassment complaint lodged by a female student. According to a Times of India report, the professor has been arrested under Indian Penal Code sections 354 and 354A for outraging the modesty of a woman.

The incident took place on May 18, and the girl had submitted a complaint letter only to the institute at that point of time. It was only two weeks before that the officials from the institute handed over the letter to the Police after political parties started putting pressure. Reportedly, Aditya Thackeray took up the matter with the institute as well as senior police officials.

The institute has offered help to the cops in the matter, and there is an internal complaints committee which is looking into the matter. A report is yet to be submitted. In the complaint report, the girl mentioned that she was made to wait for over 2 hours, on the pretext of signing her summer term form, and then called her to his cabin post 5 pm. She was then molested, where the professor allegedly 'pulled her by the ear', then 'touched her chest' and 'attempted to kiss' her and 'threatened to fail' her if she did not listen to him. The victim, however, narrated her ordeal to her parents the following day.
