Bengaluru, August 2: Dr Subramanyeshara Rao has been appointed as the new Police Commissioner of Mangaluru after Sandeep Patil has been transferred by the state government. Patil served five months as the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) in Bengaluru. Another senior official, Hanumantharaya, deputy commissioner (law and order) was also transferred with immediate effect from Thursday. The 2002-batch IPS officer, Rao, had earlier served as Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada. He was also Assistant Superintendent of Police, Puttur Sub Division and Superintendent of Police of Udupi. He served as Superintendent of Police in the Central Bureau of Investigation’s unit in Bengaluru for five years and worked as Police Commissioner of Mysuru. Patil is the new DIG and joint commissioner, crime, in Bengaluru, and Hanumantharaya has been posted in Davanagere. The transfer of two senior cops follows the death of CCD founder VG Siddhartha, who went missing from Monday and his body was recovered from the Netravati river on Wednesday morning.
