Mumbai, July 2: Due to the torrential rains across the state, there has been news of wall collapse and landslides from several areas. In Malad, at least 18 people were killed and over 20 were injured after a wall collapsed on hutments in Malad's Pimpripada area in Mumbai on Tuesday. Many are still feared to be trapped in the debris. The injured ones were immediately taken to the hospital. Commenting on the unfortunate incident, Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena said, "It’s not BMC’s failure. It is an accident. It is because of heavy rainfall. There are several illegal constructions in Mumbai & BMC has nothing to do with it."

Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who were crushed to death after a wall collapsed in Malad area of the city. "Pained to know about the loss of lives in Malad Wall Collapse incidence. My thoughts are with families who lost loved ones & prayers for speedy recovery of injured. Rs 5 lakh will be given to the kin of deceased," Fadnavis tweeted.
