Maharashtra, November 1: Those adulterating food, will now be facing with stricter punishment. According to a Times of India report, Maharashtra will be amending the Food Adulteration Act, so that those who are indulging in the crime, can face a longer jail term and stricter punishment. Girish Bapat, State minister for food and civil supplies and consumer protection said as quoted in the report said, that a few states have already amended the Act, enabling the accused to be granted the life term. In March, according to PTI reports, there was news that the Maharashtra government may bring in a law to make the adulteration of milk a non-bailable offence, with a punishment of up to three years in jail.

Adulteration of food is a serious and a grave issue, and considering the effects of it on human health, there is a need to amend the law.
