Maharashtra Activist Sambhaji Bhide Gets Notice For Claiming His Farm Mangoes Benefit 'Childless Couple'
The civic body sent a show cause notice to Bhide last week, asking him to prove his claim that mangoes from his farm "blessed" at least 150 couples have a male child.
Mumbai, June 27: Nashik-based Hindutva activist Sambhaji Bhide was sent a notice by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) for claiming that mangoes of his farms have "benefitted 150 childless couples". The 82-year-old said the couple were blessed with a "male child" only after eating the mangoes of his farm. The civic body has asked Bhide to submit the names of the childless couples, along with their addresses, in order to verify his claims.
NMC sent a show cause notice to Bhide last week, asking him to prove his claim that mangoes from his farm "blessed" at least 150 couples have a male child. The show-cause notice, issued last week, also asks for a detailed explanation to prove how the mangoes bless couples with male child.
Bhide, who heads the Shivpratishthan Hindustan, is not new to controversies. He has been booked for his alleged role in institgating the violence in Bhima-Koregaon on January 1, where Dalit groups had organised the Elgaar Parishad -- an event commemorating the victory of British Army's Mahar regiment against the Peshwa forces on January 1, 1818.
Bhide made the claim of curing infertility through his mangoes while addressing a gathering in Raigad on June 9. "I have never shared this with anyone except my mother. I have planted these mango trees on my farms. Till now, 180 childless couples took the fruit from me and 150 of them have had children," he had said.
