Chandigarh, Feb 27: Congress' winning spree continues in Punjab as the party has bagged the fourth major municipal corporation after Capt Amarinder Singh came to power last year. On Tuesday, the results of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation elections 2018 were out, bringing to fore an unprecedented victory for the Congress. The party won 62 out of the 95 wards contested, whereas, the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP combine bagged 21 seats. The Lok Insaf Party, an ally of AAP, won 7 wards. For full-list of ward-wise winning candidates check table below.

In the 2013 Ludhiana municipal elections, the BJP-SAD had emerged victorious bagging 51 seats, whereas, the Congress was restricted to 19. The results in this round of the polls have signalled a massive turn around for the Congress. According to pollsters, the results were on expected lines as the party had swept the Amritsar, Patiala and Jalandhar local bodies with a similar mandate in the December polls.

While Congress has credited its victory to the development work undertaken by the Capt Amarinder-led government in Punjab, the SAD has accused the ruling party of misusing the law and order machinery during the local body elections.

SAP spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema said Congress legislators along with local strongmen drove away Akali Dal's polling agents from several booths. Congress, however, denied the charge. "This shows their frustration. People have rejected them and now they are resorting to lies," said party MP Ravneet Singh Bittu.
