The result for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) election 2018 will be declared today. The counting of votes for the civic polls will begin at 9 am. The polls were held on Saturday, February 24 in the respective districts. By-polls were also held in two wards in Payal and Jagraon Municipal Councils. The major parties contesting the elections are Congress party, the alliance of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-Lok Insaf Party combine. A total number of 494 candidates have contested from 95 wards for the elections in the biggest municipal body in Punjab.

Meanwhile, opposition parties accused the ruling Congress of indulging in "booth capturing" and "bogus voting" following the voting. Following, a SAD-BJP delegation met Punjab Governor VP Singh on Monday and urged him to direct the state government to scrap the Ludhiana municipal corporation election process and hold one afresh. The Election Commission on February 25 ordered a re-poll in booth no. 2 and 3 of Ward 44 due to the differences between the number of votes in the register and the voting machine.

In Ludhiana, 1,153 polling stations were created for voting for the 10.5 lakh voters. Earlier in December, the Congress won municipal elections in the Amritsar, Patiala and Jalandhar corporations. The Congress, led by Captain Amarinder Singh won against power from the SAD-BJP combine, winning 77 of the 117 seats in Assembly election held last year. The party also won in 20 out of 29 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats.
