New Delhi, Aug 15: India celebrates its 72nd Independence Day today, commemorating the nation's independence from Britain on 15 August 1947. After hoisting tricolour on the ramparts of the historical site Red Fort (Lal Qila) in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver his speech. PM Modi will begin his speech by 8:00 am. The Independence Day speech will be followed by march past of various divisions of the the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force and paramilitary forces. In his Independence Day speech, PM Modi is likely to announce pilot projects of Ayushman Bharat in select district hospitals. His speech will be streamed live on Google and YouTube for wider reach. YouTube channel of Narendra Modi, PMO and the BJP will also telecast the prime minister's speech.

For the Independence Day celebrations, the national capital has been put under a security blanket with 50 companies of security agencies, Delhi Police personnel and 150 kite catchers deployed for security. An all-woman Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team is deployed at strategic locations. Vulnerable places such as crowded markets, railway stations, bus stands and other high-value establishments have been identified, and efforts have been made to secure them.
