Triple Talaq Ordinance has been challenged in Supreme Court by Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulema on Tuesday. A petition was filed challenging an ordinance which was approved by the central government to criminalise triple talaq or instant divorce.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to bar tainted lawmakers from fighting elections or disqualifying them, saying it won't interfere into the matter. The apex court said that the decision on disqualification is to be taken by Parliament and not by the court. The apex court, however, has issued directions on curbing criminalisation in politics and asked political parties to ensure that the candidates give proper details of their criminal antecedents in the affidavits filed with the Election Commission.
Some big developments that are expected to happen today are: Supreme Court will give their verdict on the Aadhaar case today. BJP has called for a 12-hour bandh in West Bengal today in protest against the death of 2 students following a clash with police in North Dinajpur's Islampur.
