Ahead of the scheduled Dharma Sabha on Sunday, organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) backed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya town turned into a fortress, with the state government asking local police and administration to be extra vigilant. According to the police, over two lakh people are expected to arrive in the temple town on Sunday.
A high alert was issued in Punjab after six suspected terrorists sighted in army uniform in Pathankot on Friday, reported News 18. Punjab police has started a search operation in the area. The suspected terrorists were spotted in the city, just days after the blast at Nirankari Bhawan in Amritsar’s Rajasansi Village which claimed the lives of three people. The police arrested one of the attackers.
As the assembly elections are drawing closer in Telangana, the political atmosphere in the state is heating up. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi during her maiden visit to the state launched a scathing attack on the Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS). While addressing the rally in Medchal, Gandhi asked the people of the state to teach a fitting lesson to the TRS. The former Congress president said, “Mothers know how important it is to look after a newborn baby. It is unfortunate that after the birth of Telangana, your responsibility fell into the hands of those who cared for themselves, but not for you.”
Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday wrote to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj expressing his gratitude to the Narendra Modi government for taking an initiative to open Kartarpur Corridor. Sidhu in his letter expressed hope that the Indian government's move would improve relations between the two countries. Sidhu wrote, “This enterprise will yield undeniable and implicit change and thaw in the relations. He also added, “It will build bridges, burn animosity and will act like a soothing balm for two neighbouring countries.”
