New Delhi, March 22: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released its first list of contestants for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019. The party has named 182 candidates, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi and BJP president Amit Shah from Gandhinagar. Meanwhile, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari have been fielded again from Lucknow and Nagpur, respectively.

In a disturbing report, Human Rights Watch has recorded numerable cases of human trafficking from Myanmar’s restive province of Kachin to China where Kachin women are sold to Chinese men and raped until they become pregnant. They are then forced to leave their babies behind if they wish to return to Myanmar.

Social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, agreed on Wednesday to process any request from the Election Commission to take down content within three hours during the 48-hour period before voting days. The agreement was arrived at a meeting between the Election Commission and Internet companies as part of a "Voluntary Code of Ethics" for the staggered Lok Sabha elections starting on April 11, an official statement said.
