On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the promulgation of an ordinance on rape demonstrated his government's determination to act on the issue, but stressed that people had to respect their daughters and make their sons more responsible for an atmosphere of safety. Modi also pitched for a social movement to ensure the safety of women and girls while addressing a rally.

The Supreme Court, while questioning how the identity of minor or unsound mind rape victims could be disclosed, on Tuesday said it would examine the aspect related to the Indian Penal Code's Section 228-A, dealing with identity of victims of sexual offences. India is unlikely to attend the next summit of South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation, which Pakistan is hopeful of hosting this year.

It comes as a huge blow to H1-B visa holders as Donald Trump administration plans to end allowing spouses of H1-B visa holders to work legally in the US, a top federal agency official has told lawmakers. The move could have an impact on more than 70,000 H-4 visas holders, who have work permits. H-4 is issued to the spouse of H-1B visa holders.The move will end the Obama-era rule which gave work permits for spouses who otherwise could not be employed.

The Special court set up under the Scheduled Caste and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in Jodhpur will deliver its verdict today in the rape case involving godman Asaram Bapu as the accused. As a precautionary measure, the Jodhpur police has imposed Section 144 of CrPC which prevents the unlawful gathering of four or more people. The prohibitory orders will remain in place till April 30. Earlier on Tuesday, the Jodhpur Court dismissed a petition seeking entry of media persons in Central Jail of Jodhpur for the coverage of Asaram Bapu rape case.
