Srinagar, July 22: Security forces gunned down three terrorists in an ongoing encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Sunday morning. The fierce gunbattle was underway at Wani mohalla locality in Khudwani area. Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police S P Vaid said terrorists who killed trainee constable Mohammad Saleem Shah were trapped.

Mohammad Saleem Shah, who was on leave, was abducted from his residence in Matalhama village on Friday and that his bullet-riddled body was found in Qaimoh area of the district on Saturday. He was reportedly kidnapped by terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen. His bore severe injury marks, indicating that he was brutally tortured by the militants.

Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation after Saleem's killing. The operation turned into a gunfight when the terrorists fired upon the forces, prompting retaliation. This comes a day after an encounter broke out between the security forces and terrorists in Tanghdar sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district on Saturday.

On June 14, militants had abducted and killed army rifleman Aurangzeb Khan in Shoian district while he was going home to join his family on Eid festival.
