Kolkata, August 6: On Sunday, just as people were watching the late night show at one of the oldest and most popular movie theatres in the city- Priya, panic erupted, as smoke emanated out of the building. According to an NDTV report, a projector room technician said that he saw smoke flooding the cinema hall around 10:15 pm. He tried to rush downstairs, but there was so much smoke in the stairway that he ran up to the roof instead. People were stuck inside the theatre, and they were rescued one by one.

According to reports, the firefighters came promptly, and no one was injured in the incident. The managing director of Priya Entertainment Pvt Ltd Arijit Dutta is also a major film distributor and actor, he along with his family lives in an apartment above the hall. They also rushed to the roof to escape the smoke.

There is no exact cause of the fire, while some reports suggest that the fire started in an office downstairs. Fire tenders rushed to rescue those stuck inside the theatre with oxygen masks.
