Thiruvananthapuram, June 24: An IAS officer in Kerala won hearts across social media after images of him eating mid-day meal food with students were uploaded on his Facebook page.
The officer, identified as S Suhas, is the district collector of Alappuzha. To assess the mid-day meal quality at Sree Devi Vilasam (SDV) government school, he not only inspected the kitchen and food ingredients, but had lunch together with the kids.
Along with Suhas, former director of education at the Zila level K P Lathika, also accompanies him for the impromptu visit.
The IAS officer, on being asked why he chose SDV school for the inspection, said the largest number of students are enrolled in the institution across Alappuzha which compelled him to ensure the food quality is upto the mark. Inspections in other state-run schools is also being carried out.
On the menu of the mid-day meal included Mor (Haldi Lassi), Vellarika Kootaan (Cucumber Sabzi), Urulakizhangu Mezhukuperati (Potato Fries) along with rice.
After inspecting the nutritional value and hygiene of mid-day meal, the officer also visited the computer lab and school library. The principal brought to his notice the space constraints.
