Kerala, August 21: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today said that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has offered financial assistance of Rs 700 crore to the state which has been devasted due to floods. Prime Minister Narendra Modi after completing his aerial survey of the damage caused by floods announced Rs 500 crore financial aid last week. He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those seriously injured from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

The Narendra Modi government has received a lot of flak on social media, and people have trolled that Rs 500 crore for flood-affected Kerala and Rs 4,300 crore for doing his own publicity. CM Chandrababu Naidu also added, "Rs 500 crore is not enough after 80 percent of Kerala is destroyed."

The Kerala government has called for an all-party meeting over the flood situation in the state at 4 PM today at Thiruvananthapuram, according to an ANI report. On Monday, the Centre declared the massive floods in Kerala as a 'calamity of severe nature'. The declaration comes days after the Opposition attacked the government for refraining to declare the floods in Kerala as a 'natural disaster'. With the 'severe calamity' declaration issued, additional aid for the flood-ravaged state will be sanctioned.

Donations have been pouring in from all parts of the country, and celebrities, TV channels, corporate houses are taking an active part in urging people to donate and help the flood-affected victims come out of the crisis.
