Kerala, August 22: Kerala floods have devastated the state and have claimed more than 370 lives. Reportedly, the total loss the state has suffered due to the floods is estimated to be over Rs 20,000 crore. Massive relief operations are taking place to help people stranded and displaced in the state. Extending help to flood-ravaged Kerala, full-service airline Vistara will fly doctors, nurses, disaster management experts and skilled volunteers from accredited institutions and relief organisations to Thiruvananthapuram. The airline in a statement announced that it will fly such people "free of cost" from the national capital and Chennai. Due to unavailability of seats, the airline will accommodate people on the basis of first come, first serve basis.

Other flights like GoAir, IndiGo, Jet Airways and others are taking part in the rescue operation by operating special flights. Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has written to airlines to limit fares between Delhi and Kerala to Rs 10,000, fearing a spike in the airfare rates.
The Periyar river had flooded Kochi airport, and therefore it will not be available up to 2 pm on August 26. All the flights will remain suspended until then. The heavy rains have brought the state to a standstill,
