Kerala Floods: Contributions to Kerala CM's Distress Relief Fund Reach Rs 1,027 Crore

The Indian government has announced a donation of Rs 600 crore and an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased

Kerala, August 31: The contribution made to the Kerala Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund has reached Rs 1,027 crore. According to an India Today report, 4.76 lakh people have made their online contributions for the flood-hit state. Rs 145.17 crores were collected through electronic payments, 46.04 crores were collected through UPI and Rs 835.86 crores were made through direct deposits and cheques.

The Kerala floods have claimed 483 lives and have displaced several people from their homes. Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan on August 29 said that the amount received in the form of land, cheques, ornaments will be announced later. The Mizoram Government had said that it will donate Rs 2 crore to the relief fund and 34 Congress MLAs from the state have said that they will donate Rs 1 lakh each to the fund. In addition to this, the Government of Gujarat has also donated Rs 10 crore to the relief fund. Film actors and other prominent personalities have donated to the relief fund and are urging others to do so. The Indian government has announced a donation of Rs 600 crore and an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those seriously injured from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
