Mumbai, July 17: The government has promised to help provide employment to the jobless staff of Jet Airways. Hardeep Singh Puri, Civil Aviation Minister said Puri said while replying to Members in the Rajya Sabha on the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (Amendment) Bill, 2019, that a website would be launched listing staff of the now-defunct Jet Airways airlines and help them to find jobs in other private airline companies.

According to an IANS report, the Civil Aviation Ministry is in touch with other private airlines such as SpiceJet and IndiGo to assist Jet staff get meaningful employment. Last month, Singh had said that Minister Hardeep Puri on Thursday said that Government of India has no role in raising funds for Jet Airways. Soon after the airlines shut, the arch-rival of Jet Airways extended their help to absorb few jobless Jet employees.  The budget carrier Spicejet recruited more than 500 jet employees, including 100 pilots.

Jet Airways owes over Rs 8,500 crore to a consortium of 26 banks led by State Bank. Apart from this, over Rs, 13,000 crores to the tens of hundreds of vendors are owned and as an effect, around 23,000-odd employees have been affected.

A Business Today reports mention that airline's meagre assets include 14 aircraft including 10 Boeing planes and 49 percent stake in Jet Privilege and a few buildings. However, the liabilities of the airline are over Rs 36,000 crore, including more than Rs 10,000 crore of vendor dues, Rs 8,500 crore along with interest to the lenders, over Rs 3,000 crore in salary dues and more than Rs 13,500 crore in accumulated losses of the past three years.
