Jayanagar Assembly Election 2018 Result Live Streaming: Counting of votes for the Jayanagar Assembly Election 2018 in Karnataka began on Wednesday, June 13. Voting for the Jayanagar seat of Karnataka Assembly took place on Friday, June 11 and 55 per cent was recorded. You can watch Live streaming of Jayanagar Election Result on TV9 Kannada here. You can also catch Live updates on counting of votes here.

Of over 2 lakh voters in the constituency, a total of 1,11,689 voters exercised their franchise in Jayanagar.  There were 216 polling booths in seven wards in the constituency, among which five were pink booths.

The election on the Jayanagar seat was countermanded after the death of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate BN Vijayakumar before the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018. Jayanagar saw a fierce two-way fight between the Congress and the BJP. Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) withdrew its candidate ahead of the election and announced support to the Congress candidate after the two parties formed a coalition government in the state. A total of 19 candidates were in the fray for the Jayanagar seat.

BJP’s BN Prahlad, brother of Vijaykumar, and senior Congress leader and former minister Ramalinga Reddy’s daughter Sowmya Reddy were locked in a high-pitch battle in Jayanagar. The campaigning for Jayanagar became ugly when a  photoshopped image of Congress candidate Sowmya Reddy eating non vegetarian food was being circulated on the social media. Reddy clarified that the image was photoshopped and also sent the original image to the fake news busting website Alt News.

In the 2013 elections, Vijay Kumar won defeating Congress candidate MC Venugopal. Before that, Ramalinga Reddy won four times consecutively. The Congress, which won from the RR Nagar Assembly seat on May 31, hopes to wrest the Jayanagar seat from the BJP, aiming to take its tally to 79.
