Jammu and Kashmir: Special Police Officer Goes Missing After Leaving From Pampore Police Station With an AK-47 Rifle

Jammu, June 27: Nearly two weeks after army jawan Aurangzeb was abducted by terrorists and killed, another similar incident of mysterious missing of a Police Officer has come into light. According to a tweet by ANI, a Special Police Officer (SPO) has gone missing after reportedly leaving from Pampore police station with an AK-47 rifle. The search operation is underway.
Earlier, Muhammad Zahid Malik, the Superintendent of Police Awantipora, confirmed that the SPO is missing since last evening. According to a report by Greater Kashmir, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen on Wednesday claimed that the Special Police Officer (SPO) who fled with his service rifle from Pampore police station has joined the militant outfit.
Meanwhile, KNS news agency quoted the operational spokesman of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Burhan-u-Din saying, “SPO Irfan Ahmad Dar, a resident of Nehama Kakapora of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, who fled with the rifle has joined Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.”
Earlier this month, Aurangzeb, the army jawan who was posted with 44 Rashtriya Rifles, was abducted by suspected terrorists on June 14, from Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Reports inform that Aurangzeb was on his way home to celebrate Eid when the incident took place. He had boarded a private vehicle for Shopian, from where he was supposed to go to Rajouri district.
