Srinagar, July 28: A special police officer (SPO), who was abducted by terrorists, returned home on Saturday after being released from their captivity. SPO Mudasir Ahmad Lone was kidnapped by militants from Chantakar village in Tral area of Pulwama district. Inspector General of Police Swayam Prakash Pani said Lone was released alive and has reached his home.

The mother of the abducted SPO had made a passionate appeal to the militants through a video that went viral to spare her son's life who was her only male child. The SPO was working as a cook in Awantipora Police Lines and had no role in anti-militancy operations. Three militants on Friday evening entered his house in Chankatar village and abducted him.

It is not the first case of terrorists targeting policemen of the state. According to reports, more than 20 policemen were abducted by terrorists in J&K. Earlier, on July 21, the body of police constable Mohammad Salim Shah was found in Qaimoh village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Multiple bullet injury marks were seen on his body which was found a day after unidentified gunmen abducted him from his house.

On July 5, policeman Javaid Dar was abducted by militants from Shopian district. His dead body was found in Kulgam the next day. Indian Army soldier Aurangzeb, who was a resident of Kashmir's Poonch district, was also abducted by militants in Pulwama, while he was going to his hometown on leave for Eid. His body was found at Gusoo Pulwama on June 14.
