Jammu and Kashmir: 1,000 Kg Poppy Seized in Ramban District in a Month; Five Arrested

Police have started a major crackdown against drug smuggling in Ramban. In the process, huge quantity of contraband, including 1,000 kg of poppy, 3.5 kg of cannabis.

Banihal, Sep 28: Five people were arrested and nearly 1,000 kg poppy and 3.5 kg cannabis seized in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district in a month, police said Friday. Police have started a major crackdown against drug smuggling in Ramban. In the process, huge quantity of contraband, including 1,000 kg of poppy, 3.5 kg of cannabis and some quantity of brown sugar were seized and five suspected smugglers arrested in a month, Senior Superintendent of Police (Ramban) Anita Sharma told reporters here Friday. 25 KG Poppy Seized, Four Drug Peddlers Arrested in Jammu and Kashmir.

She said police had prepared a list of known smugglers in the area and were in the process of identifying other habitual offenders so that they could be booked and detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
