Lucknow, May 29: IPS officer Rajesh Sahni was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the office of Anti-Terrorism Squad here in the state capital. Sahni was rushed to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The incident has left the entire state police force and bureaucracy in a state of shock. Although his death appears to be a suicide, an inquiry has been initiated.

Sahni, according to reports, shot himself dead after locking his office. The Uttar Pradesh police, however, is yet to confirm whether he committed suicide. UP DGP O P Singh, along with other top-level officers have reached the ATS office.

Sahni has been serving the Uttar Pradesh police since 1997. In 2012, he was appointed as the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the State ATS. The IPS officer recently made news after he played a key role in nabbing a suspected ISI agent from Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh.

Sahni's suicide comes days after Mumbai's top cop Himanshu Roy committed suicide at his residence on May 11. At the time of his death, Roy had taken an extended leave as he was suffering from cancer.
