Ghaziabad, Mar 30: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday inaugurated the Hindon Elevated Road, termed as India's longest elevated corridor built on single-pier pillars. The 10.3-kilometre flyover will cut down the commutation period between Delhi to Ghaziabad to merely 18 minutes.

The elevated road lies on the National Highway 24, allowing the commuters from Meerut region to use the corridor for travelling to the NCR. The route will connect the Raj Nagar Extension to the UP Gate.

Constructed under the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) model, the total cost incurred by the state government amounted to Rs 1,470 crores.

The project was initiated in 2013, under the aegis of the erstwhile government led by the Samajwadi Party.

Along with CM Adityanath, Ghaziabad MP Gen (retd) V K Singh also attended the opening ceremony.

Ahead of the official launch, Samajwadi Party MLC Rakesh Yadav, along with his supporters, attempted to unofficially inaugurate the highway on March 16, claiming that the project was a brainchild of former CM Akhilesh Yadav.

The MLC, who was arrested for his act, accused the Adityanath-led BJP government of taking credit of the projects whose costs were borne by the erstwhile SP regime.

Apart from inaugurating the elevated road, the UP CM also announced 100 per cent electrification of houses in Ghaziabad district under the Saubhagya Yojana.
